ABOUT US
HERE WE ARE is an interdisciplinary artistic collective formed by performers and choreographers Anita Twarowska and Murillo Basso, video artist Oscar Loeser, musician Nicolas Schulze, and production dramaturg Frauke Niemann. The collective also works with a rotating group of collaborators, depending on each project, further expanding the diversity of voices and perspectives within their productions.
At the heart of HERE WE ARE lies the search for encounters — between people, artistic languages, and the space that connects performers and the audience. Their work explores improvisation and the human capacity for connection, seeking to communicate beyond the barriers of language through the senses. As a response to the constant demand for high productivity, the collective focuses on the genuine experience of time, space, and presence. Their performances, often site-specific, question how we perceive distance, intimacy, and the passage of time. Themes such as deceleration, non-verbal communication, alienation, and the crossing of boundaries between dance, theater, installation, and performance are recurring elements in their productions.
The collective emerged from the artistic partnership between Twarowska and Basso, which began with their Trilogie der Begegnung (Trilogy of Encounters). From there, the decision-making process within the creation evolved into a more horizontal structure, resulting in the formation of HERE WE ARE. This movement also reflects their artistic interests, creating works that frequently challenge traditional boundaries, inviting active participation, and reflecting on the tension between the intimacy of the performer-audience relationship and the careful construction of space.
